Another look at Carnesky's Tarot Drome experience in association with Crying Out Loud at Cirque Jules Verne in Amiens, France. Third Mind Productions provided production management taking the brilliant show on it's adventure to France.
An art show truly worth making a fuzz about, Lucy Sparrow’s Cornershop is the fluffiest, furriest shopping experience imaginable. She’s filled a former derelict store in Bethnal Green with over 4,000 handmade felt versions of familiar grocery items – from fish fingers and cans of SPAM to sanitary towels and newspapers, rocket ice lollies and oven chips to ciggies, veggies, and what is most certainly the softest loo roll ever manufactured. Every single thing inside the Cornershop – the till, the functioning pricing gun, the contents of freezers, the pick ‘n’ mix stand – is fashioned from fabric, and the whole lot took Lucy seven months to complete. All her highly huggable versions of everyday essentials are for sale, but will stay in the store for a month, during which time a variety of sewing workshops will take place, designed to engage the local community (particularly individuals with autism and sectors often socially excluded) in relatable, accessible art that’s relevant to them and their neighbourhood and has been brought right to their doorstep. People can sign up to these workshops in the shop and group workshops for charities can be arranged through Lucy. This exhibition has been supported by the Arts Council, Tower Hamlets Council and Kickstarter. The event is sponsored by Swizzel’s sweets. Working at the intersection between contemporary craft, her previous works have included ‘Mini Structures’ – a series of supersoft London landmarks created for Time Out magazine – activist creations for Greenpeace, and exhibitions alongside notable street artists such as Banksy. Her creations often discuss issues spanning the politics of consumerism, sidelined social groups and mental wellbeing. She’s a total softie. OPENING NIGHT: 6pm-9pm, Friday 1st August 2014 Sponsored by Swizzels, opening night will feature free sweeties, Character's and performances provided by Third Mind Productions! THE CORNERSHOP IS THEN OPEN:
Every day, including Sundays, 10am-7pm, until Sunday 31st August. 19 Wellington Row, London E2 7BB We have just returned from running the production management and set/prop work for Carnesky's Tarot Drome experience in association with Crying Out Loud at Cirque Jules Verne in Amiens, France. The run featured a remarkable line up of performance artists such as Marisa Carnesky, Rasp Thorne, Vicky Butterfly, Lala Morte, Rhyannon Styles, Bella Kinetica, and many more! The show was part of British Eccentricity season by Crying Out Loud and also featured the amazing fire and aerial performances by Invisable Circus.
We will be creating narrative led theatrical based performances & interactive installations at this year's BoomTown Festival as part of the ChinaTown District. ChinaTown is a busy, compact place of many lights, parades and performers seems to evolve daily as more tourists take to the square and wait for that gong to dong and the show to start! Venues include the ChinaTown Courtyard and Devilkicks Dancehall. Filled with "the most avin it ska, ska punk, rockin punk, folk punk, polka punk, hell-jazz 'n' roll around town!" Especially for BoomTown we are creating unique performances over three days entitled Journey To The East (a nod to the popular Journey to the West story).
A chance meeting in the bustling streets of ChinaTown will take you into a hidden world to discover a host of strange oriental characters! Be warned watch you pockets around the Monkey thieves, learn your fortunes from the Wise Old Sage, how much luck will the Lucky Cats bring, join a not so traditional Tea Cermony with the Trollied Tea Ladies and meet Buddha himself to impart words of wisdoms to you! If you are lucky enough to meet one of our characters you will be greeted with an interactive & immersible experience. Take part in an expedition through the busy streets to find the secret riches of Boomtown! See you there! We are excited to be running the production for the up-coming Goblin King's Masquerade Ball 2014. Bringing multi-narrative dark fantasy based immersive experiences, rooted in the enchanted tales of folklore and myth to vividly well dressed audience.
The event is now in it's fourth year following on from it's success at the Old Vic Tunnels, Islington Metal Works and SEOne Club. The Goblin King's Masquerade Ball is an experiential party exploring the darker side of fantasy. A grim faerie tale world of the creatures only whispered about after dark, that do really lurk under your bed and not only in your imagination. Featuring promenade theatre, live music, interactive creatures, puppetry & art installations. For more information visit www.goblin-king.co.uk |
